Description

The little devil has graced both the silver and the TV screen and has entertained people for generations, but he has had some serious cosmetic changes given to him over the years. Starting all the way back to his creation in 1929 by Sillyvision, to his modern design by Dizzyworks.

1929: Back when Sillyvision was still making the "Bart the Pig" cartoons, the character started to lose steam to the public and the company needed to find a replacement character. The company found their answer when they made the short "Little Devil", in the short Bart can't repay his debts he owes to the devil, so the devil sends his little henchmen to torment Bart until he can pay up. The little devil who torments Bart would actually end up becoming a popular character and would appear in several other shorts with Bart, until Joey Drew decided to drop the pig and make the little devil the main character of the series.

1931: The first ever little devil cartoon is shown called "The Dancing Demon" with the devil's new name, Bendy. The character was also given some white to his design so audiences could see more of what the character was doing, Bendy was originally portrayed as a mischievous trickster who always got himself into trouble, because of his greed, lust, and gluttony. The character became a huge hit, but due to some unknown issues within the company Bendy was sold off to another company called "Dizzyworks" in 1939.

1939: Dizzyworks airs the first Bendy cartoon called "Hellfire Hollies", this is also the first appearance of the new designed Bendy who looks strikingly similar to the Sillyvision counterpart with some minor changes. Dizzyworks would make minor changes to the model and try giving him different attire, like pants and hats, but the design would always transfer back to something resembling the original. This Bendy was also changed personality wise, while he still is a prankster and a cunning trickster, he now has less ill intent behind his schemes and while he still causes problems for others he possesses a good heart and will do what's right in the end.

1941: The first colored Bendy cartoon is released, in the short called "Red Hot Demon" Bendy has some drastic changes to his design (With a smaller head, a tail, and one horn being bigger then the other). Wanting to show off the new colors, the company made Bendy Red and also changed other character's color palettes, like making Boris blue. However, this design was not favored so they went back to the black and white colors Bendy, but kept some features of the design.

1942: The short "Duel Bendality" airs and shows off the final design for the Dizzyworks Bendy, this Bendy would become the most accepted among fans, so the company kept the design for several years. This Bendy is back to being black and white, but kept the tail and bent horns from the previous design. The head is also larger, but smaller then the 1939 design, despite future changes to the design this design is the one present on all Bendy merchandise and Dizzyworks parks.

2014: A more stylized Bendy created for a new tv-show, however this show went back to the roots of Bendy, having darker themes and Bendy went back to being more of a malevolent character. His design is also made to represent the original Sillyvision version of the character, but does still have some continuity pulled over from the previous Dizzyworks Bendy (like sharing a house with Alice and being the Adopted brother of Boris the Wolf).
